Are you an entrepreneur with a dream, and working toward making that dream a reality?
From dream to reality | If so, you’re not alone. Thousands of entrepreneurs like you are working daily to build their dream businesses. And while it can be challenging at times, it’s also gratifying.
What does it mean to turn dreams into reality?
In 2014, I worked as a marketing officer for a villa rental and management company. This job needed to be in alignment with the dream I had envisioned for myself. I aimed to empower others to find their gifts and achieve their business dreams.
However, like most desires, it stayed in my head for a long time. I was too scared to make the leap and make my dream a reality. I thought to myself: “Who am I to help others?” and “I am not good enough.”
So, I stayed with a job that didn’t suit me and needed to practice my passions more. The result? I got sick and physically unwell.
I reached out for help and called my mentor Rick Pursell. We discussed, over a phone call, where I was at and what I could do to change my situation.
He asked me a single question: ‘How can you experience more joy and fulfillment in your work?’
My answer to this question was: ‘To help people find their passions, engage with their talents, and achieve their dreams.’
What happened next was fascinating.
For about 30 minutes, I shared why I could not make my dream come true. I talked about my sickness. I had less than USD 2,000 in my bank account and thought I needed more experience as I was only 28 years old.
Rick shared a metaphor with me, “Imagine a martial arts practitioner places two bricks a meter apart, and then he places a plank on top of those bricks.”
-“Next, imagine this martial arts practitioner who wants to break through the plank with his hand. Where does he focus on?”
My answer was, “In the middle of the plank because that is where he wants to break it.” Rick replied, “I understand why you think that.” However, if the martial arts practitioner focused on the middle of the plank, his hand would stop there, and he would not break through the plank.
Instead of focusing on the middle of the plank, the martial arts practitioner focuses on the air underneath the plank because that is where he wants his hand to go. And when moving his hand where he wants to, he will break the plank.
He then pursued to explain that the plank represents the challenges of our life, and the air underneath represents the solutions and opportunities. I listened intensively to Rick’s words and felt them resonate deeply with me.
-“Obed” rick continued, “you just shared why you cannot help others with their dreams! You say that you do not have enough money, not enough health and that you are not wise enough yet, and the obstacles only seem bigger and bigger each time you talk about it.”
-“Aren’t you focusing on the plank only here? I challenge you to focus on the air underneath the plank. What I mean is focus on solutions and opportunities for achieving your dreams.”
How can I turn my dreams into reality?
I felt truth in my mentor’s words and thought about it for a moment, and asked myself, why do I keep thinking that I am not good enough to help others improve their lives?
Suddenly, I remembered the teachings I learned during the “Unleash The Power Within” Seminar from Tony Robbins, the powerful life coach who has already positively impacted 50 million people.
And I remembered that Tony Robbins shared that we must be mindful of our beliefs about ourselves and the world. We create our reality with our beliefs. Therefore, it is essential to believe in ourselves.
Can it be challenging to put it into practice?
I started to apply again the technique of positive affirmations I learned from Tony Robbins to resolve my limiting beliefs, and suddenly, I received powerful insights.
I understood that I had learned enough to be of service to others. Many of us have the limiting belief that we cannot do these little things until we have become an expert.
I remember that at the age of 21, I had already worked as a team leader & coach for a telemarketing team while completing my bachelor’s degree in marketing and management.
I remember also that at 25, I had already worked in six different countries and gained valuable work experience, and at 26 I was promoted to Senior Coach for Kalff Fundraising Company.
By working as a team and showing massive support for each other, we raised millions of euros for non-profit organizations such as Greenpeace, UNICEF, and Amnesty International.
At that moment, I understood that it was my fears which were blocking me from my dream to reality.
So, when I changed my belief by rewriting my narrative, “I am good enough to serve others. I will heal my eyes by working as a Business Coach, and I won’t stop until I succeed.” I felt like I was a thousand meters tall and that I could embrace mountains.
Today, I feel proud to say that I helped more than 1200 people improve their business dreams through online courses, speeches, and workshops. I have spoken at unique places such as the Green School, Bali Spirit Festival, and Citizen Circle Conference.
I wrote this article to express what is possible if we give ourselves permission to dream big and take action. Read on, and discover several tips to help you start or grow your dream business.
Here are 10 tips to now turn your idea from dream to reality.
1. What does Tony Robbins say about dreams?
Dreams are essential to who we are and what we want to work on in our lifetime. As Tony Robbins says, “A goal is just a dream with a deadline.” Dreams motivate us to take action and bring our goals to fruition.
We need dreams to reach our full potential. Dreams inspire us to be better tomorrow than we are today. They give us something to strive for and something to believe in. Dreams fuel our ambition and drive us to manifest incredible things.
Tony Robbins’ message about dreams is simple but powerful – Dreams are the key to a well-lived life. We can achieve anything we desire by setting our sights high and pursuing our dreams with determined action.
2. Can your dreams become a reality as well?
As an entrepreneur, you know that having a clear picture of your goals is essential to success. But what about your dreams?
Can they become a reality as well? The answer is yes – but it takes more than just wishing for something to make it happen. You need to pursue your dreams with determination and set realistic goals.
It won’t be easy, but anything is possible if you’re willing to put in some work.
3. Embrace the consequences of your actions
You must be prepared to face the consequences of your actions. If things go wrong, it’s up to you to fix them. And if things go right, you need to be ready to take advantage of the opportunity.
There’s no room for complacency in business, and you must always be moving forward and ready to serve your clients. Sure, it can be scary to embrace the consequences of your actions. But it’s also exhilarating.
It’s what allows you to shape your destiny truly. When you’re willing to face the consequences head-on, nothing stops you from bringing your dreams into reality.
So go out there and embrace the consequences of your actions. Embrace the entrepreneur within you.
4. Get others to work with you.
Most successful people need help to create their results. They have a supportive network of family, friends, and colleagues who help them to develop their dreams and accomplish their goals. Getting others to work with you on your path is essential if you want to dream big.
Building a positive relationship with those around you will allow you to bounce ideas off each other, collaborate on projects, and provide help and support when needed.
You’ll also be able to hold each other accountable and keep each other motivated. So don’t go it alone; get others to work with you, and you’ll be much more likely to achieve your goals.
5. Set realistic goals
When a client asks me how to increase discipline and willpower, I always ask, “do you have clearly defined goals for yourself?”
More often than not, their answer is no. Well-defined goals are essential to giving yourself direction because they help you connect your daily actions to your greater purpose.
When you design your goals, make sure they are SMART GOALS, as shown below:
For example, my client Pekka Mattila set an ambitious SMART goal for himself: to attract 150 ideal students for his Digital University and generate 500,000 euros in revenues within 12 months.
The Digital University is a high-end online membership program that helps people be financially free with meaningful business activities. During this course, Pekka helps entrepreneurs develop businesses that have a positive impact on the world and that generate good profits at the same time.
Pekka also set action-based goals: to provide four articles, two webinars, and four videos in 6 months. Pekka knew that accomplishing these milestones would set him up for success in his objective for the year.
Using the SMART goal-setting technique, taking intentional action, and staying disciplined daily, Pekka Mattila created excellent results and felt great purpose and fulfillment. He finally attracted 135 students and generated more than 500.000 euros in 2019.
The generated revenues helped him invest in innovations regarding the Digital University to help even more entrepreneurs in the following years. The Digital University is a great business case on how it is possible to combine passion, purpose, and profit.
Pekka also shares powerful insights on how he set up the Digital University in the recording of his speech “The importance of defining your cause.”
6. Don’t underestimate others.
It’s easy to underestimate the people around you. After all, you’re the one in charge, and you’re ultimately responsible for your business’s success or failure.
However, it’s important to remember that the people you work with can also have a tremendous impact on your business. They can provide valuable insights and help you make decisions that will take your business in the right direction.
They can also be an excellent resource for building a team and achieving your goals. So don’t underestimate the people around you, as they are often your greatest asset – they may be the key to your success. 7. Take Massive Actions
Taking massive actions is one of the most important things you can do if you want to be successful. It’s not always easy, but it’s always worth it.
Remember, no one ever said that entrepreneurship was easy. But if you’re willing to put in the work, it will take you in the right direction.
8. Don’t make excuses
Making excuses is something we’re all guilty of from time to time. Whether we’re trying to get out of doing something we don’t want to do or simply looking for a way to justify our behavior, it’s easy to fall into this trap. However, creating excuses is often counterproductive.
It can prevent us from achieving our goals and damage our relationships with others. When we make excuses, we’re telling ourselves that we’re not good enough, can’t achieve our goals, and are not worth other people’s time and effort.
This negative thinking can become a self-fulfilling prophecy, leading to negativity and self-doubt. If you create excuses regularly, you must reach out for support.
Talk to a trusted friend or family member, seek professional help, or join a mastermind group. Surround yourself with people who will help you stay positive and motivated. Excuses are only harmful if you allow them to be.
Don’t be afraid to reach out for help when you need it. Remember, you are capable of amazing things. Even if you’ve made some mistakes in the past, you can still achieve your goals. Business is full of second chances. Use them wisely.
So don’t make excuses. Life is too short for that. Just get out there and do what you were meant to do. Get to work and turn your dreams into reality. It’s worth it!
9. Go Forward
We all have fears. Fear of the unknown, fear of failure, fear of being judged. But how do we express those fears?
By coaching hundreds of entrepreneurs, I’ve noticed people express fears differently. For example:
- Perfectionism: the need to be perfect
- Procrastination: postponing important activities to tomorrow, next week, etc.
- Settling for less: Being afraid of taking a chance and stepping out of our comfort zone.
- Numbing yourself: taking alcohol and drugs to cope with stress
However, it is essential to remember that fear is just an emotion, not a fact. We can face our fears and take the first step toward achieving our goals.
When we do this, we are setting an intention to succeed and telling ourselves that we are capable and deserving of positive results.
So don’t let negative emotions hold you back – step out of your comfort zone today and see where it takes you!
10. Be prepared for failure and turn it into feedback
There will be hardships and setbacks, no matter how hard you try to avoid them.
The important thing is to keep failures from defining you. Instead, use them as a learning opportunity to grow and become better.
Pursue your dreams with determination, and build a support system of family and friends who will help you through the tough times.
Most importantly, never give up on yourself. Believe in your ability to overcome any obstacle, and realize that failure is a stepping stone to success. I believe you can do it. Because if I can, anybody can!
